Future of Places | Buenos Aires

Buenos dias

It was great to be a part of the international Future of Places placemaking conference held from 1-3 September 2014 in Buenos Aires.

The Future of Places conference series is a primary partnership between UN Habitat, Project for Public Spaces New York and the Ax: son Johnson Foundation.  Place Leaders is proud to be the regional partner of Future of Places for the Asia Pacific region.

This was the second of three international conferences that has brought together some of the world’s most profound minds and dedicated professionals on the subject of public space and placemaking.  The first conference, in 2013, was held in Stockholm.

The main theme for the second conference was “Streets as Public Spaces and Drivers of Urban Prosperity”.

The conference theme was related to a new research report from UN-Habitat with the same name. It concludes that:

“prosperous cities are those that recognize the relevance of public spaces (with proper layouts) and those which have allocated sufficient land to street development, including sufficient crossings along an appropriate lengthy network.”
