From our Chairman: Peter Smith

Welcome to new members who’ve joined us since our very successful Future of Places conference in Adelaide, South Australia earlier this year. This was the first time a Future of Places conference had been held in the southern hemisphere and Place Leaders was very proud to host the Lord Mayors of Australian capital cities and leading placemaking speakers from across Asia Pacific and the world. If you couldn’t make this event or are keen to look back on what happened you can see more here.

As a result of this success, I am really pleased to announce the next regional Future of Places: Australasia and the Asia Pacific will be co-hosted by Place Leaders and Auckland City Council on 16-17 April 2015. Make sure you lock the date in your diary, more details to come soon.

In September I will be sharing some of the very best Asia Pacific placemaking examples when I keynote at the next Future of Places conference in Buenos Aires and the second annual Placemaking Leadership Council in Pittsburgh, USA. I’ll bring back to you some of the best placemaking examples I see on my travels.

Speaking of best practice, Place Leaders recently announced the winners of our inaugural place awards. Thanks to all that entered and particular congratulations to Place Partners and Moreland Council our inaugural award winners. You can find out about their award winning work below.

There are a number of upcoming Place Leaders events we hope to see you at. On Friday 26 September, Gold Coast City Council is hosting our next Place Champions forum and on Wednesday 15 – Friday 17 October the Perth Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority and the City of Perth are hosting our Place Leaders workshop. If you are a place practitioner or just place curious, you need to be at these sessions! You can register for each through our website.

The Board and I have been working hard over the past few months to develop new products and services so you can make the most out of your Place Leaders membership. We’ll start to share soon so stay tuned.

You can keep up to date with our latest news anytime of the day or night by following us on Twitter @placeleaders
